2011 Opportunity Quilt

Opportunity Quilt:

Guild members create an annual Opportunity Quilt. Proceeds support guild activities, including our philanthropic endeavors. Tickets are available from guild members - 6 for $5. The winner is drawn at our meeting or quilt show in October.

Kaleidoscope of Quilts:

Our biennial exhibition of over 100 quilts, garments, wall hangings and other quilted items made by members. The guild provides refreshments, a kids’ corner, silent auction and a display of items donated to philanthropy. Admission is free. The show is held in October at the Lemon Grove Masonic Center, 2590 Main St., Lemon Grove. The winner of the Opportunity Quilt is announced during the show. Check the October calendar for exact dates.

Camp Kaleidoscope Retreat:

Starting in 2000 the guild has organized a yearly retreat for guild members and friends. It is currently held at the Vina de Lestonnac Retreat Center in Temecula. Check the September calendar for dates and specific information about this year’s retreat.

Block of the Month:

At each monthly membership meeting, a kit including fabric and a quilt block pattern is made available to interested members for $2. The patterns are designed by members who have signed up. Finished blocks are returned and participants are eligible to win all the blocks at a monthly drawing. Members interested in signing up to provide a Block of the Month should contact the Block of the Month Chairperson.

Philanthropy:

Since its inception a major purpose of our guild has been to provide quilts to those in need. Over the years we have donated quilts to Polinsky Children’s Center, Edgemoor Hospital in Santee, Monte Vista Retirement Community in Lemon Grove, Project Linus, Becky’s House, Ronald MacDonald House, La Jolla Veterans’ Hospital and other veteran organizations.

A requirement of membership is to donate one quilt each year to our philanthropic efforts. Last year 120 quilts were donated to Ronald MacDonald House, Project Linus, La Jolla Veterans’ Hospital, and other veterans’ organizations.
